Equity, representation and inclusion are core values of NLA at all levels of our organisation, and we are committed to delivering a programme and outputs that are representative of the whole city, and can be enjoyed by everyone. At the same time, we recognise that there are still significant barriers for groups in our society to be able to enjoy and participate in NLA activity.
Each year we work to break down barriers and welcome everyone into conversations around the future of our city at The London. This page covers this specific website, and The London Centre as a venue.
On this page you can find information about:
What access is like at The London Centre, the home of NLA
What access provisions are available at NLA events
How to get in touch to make your TLC experience better
There are two ways of entering the London Centre: either up 3 steps with a handrail on either side, or via a platform lift. There are gender-neutral and accessible toilets on the lower ground floor, which can be accessed via a flight of stairs.
The nearest underground stations are Bank (Northern, Central, Circle & District, DLR, Waterloo & City), Monument (Circle & District), Moorgate (Circle, Hammersmith & City, Metropolitan). Blackfriars, Fenchurch Street and City Thameslink stations are also within close walking distance.
There is street parking along Aldermanbury which just requires online payment; the restrictions are Monday-Friday, 8am-7pm, for a maximum of 4hrs and no return within 1hr. Alternatively, the London Wall Car Park is located very close to The London Centre; further information on parking there can be found online here.
Designated disabled parking spaces are located in Aldermanbury, Basinghall, Gresham and Coleman Streets. 4-hour maximum stay Monday to Friday; no limit at weekends. However, these cannot be booked in advance. There are also Blue Badge Parking Bays around The London Centre and the City of London, with the nearest ones being on Aldermanbury and Basinghall Street.
A map of Blue Badge and other parking can found be using the link here
The City of London Corporation provides free public cycle parking in all of its off-street, 24-hour public car parks. Santander Cycles, London's self-service bike sharing scheme for short journeys, are available for hire across London with docking stations on Aldermanbury, Cheapside and Wood Street.
If you would like more information, or have any access requirements, please let us know what these are and how we can best accommodate these by emailing events@nla.london
Toilets:
There are both standard toilets and accessible toilets on the lower ground floor of the centre, along with baby changing facilities. These can be accessed via stairs or a lift to the lower ground floor. To access the accessible toilet and/or baby changing facilities please speak to reception who can show you down to the lower ground floor in the lift and unlock the toilet door.
Lifts:
There is one lift at The London Centre. These take you between the ground level where the entrance and gallery can be found and the lower ground floor where the toilets can be found. Floor levels are announced in all lifts.
Seating:
There is a variety of seating options across The London Centre on each floor. In the gallery the seating comes in the form of benches, high and low chairs and stools.
Refreshments:
Both cold and hot water taps are located in the gallery space. These are available free of charge. There is a water fountain located on the lower ground floor, with easier access for wheelchair users and those who require lower surfaces.
Alternative versions of the exhibition content:
For those who would like, we have on hand (enlarged) print gallery plans and large print guides of all exhibition content, on request.
Assistance dogs:
We welcome guide dogs, hearing dogs and assistance dogs in the gallery. Please keep any dogs on leads.
Lighting:
If exiting the building at night time, there are lights at each entrance. Street lights then continue the ways to the closest stations.
If you would like more information on the above or have any access requirements, please let us know what these are and how we can best accommodate these by emailing events@nla.london.
